The Apple iPhone – Still A Lot of Hype Thanks to Apps

Apple Incorporated has stayed ahead of the mobile technology game ever since the introduction of the iPhone. The Apple iPhone was one of the most talked about consumer products ever, and still is. The iPhone is very attractive to customers because of its sleek looks, futuristic touch screen capabilities, complete internet access, GPS capabilities, etc. Yet, much of the credit of the iPhone’s continual success must be given to its innovative application program.

In this day and age, it is hard for companies to create a high technology product and be able to market it before it is considered obsolete or outdated. So, for the Apple iPhone to be introduced in June, 2007, and still be raved about and desired by customers through the whole year of 2009 and on, is a feat that is almost unheard of.

When the iPhone was first introduced it had ground-breaking features and capabilities. The wide touch screen was the first of its kind in the cell phone genre. The touch screen capabilities of the phone are unbelievable. With two fingers, you can start you fingers off together on the screen and move them further apart from one another to magnify an object on the screen. The mapping app that comes standard with any iPhone allows you to use your current location, type in a destination, and it will act as a GPS and give you an interactive map using real satellite imaging and text for road names, making any trip easy to make. The iPhone has full internet access, easy-to-use e-mail, full video and audio iPod capacity, an app to keep track of stocks, a weather app, a camera, and a you-tube app. By the way, these are just features that come standard with the iPhone.

Many different cell phone companies started putting out cell phones with similarities to the iPhone as quick as they possibly could. Companies did not have a choice but to react this way because of the market share Apple was gaining with the iPhone. One of the main reasons that the iPhone has maintained its dominance in the marketplace over similar products is because of the iPhone application program.

The iPhone application program, or app store, is a window to a world of apps that anyone can create. Apps are programs that are downloaded onto your iPhone for your personal use. Some apps are free and some you have to pay for, and range from simple games to serious business apps. Many companies, such as eBay, create apps to help people be able to use their company, which leads to more profits for that company. Companies can generate revenues through apps by either allowing free app downloads that gives people access to buy stuff from that company, or by creating an app that they can charge people a fee to buy.

All in all, the iPhone itself is an extremely desired product in itself. Yet, I feel that the folks at Apple Incorporated had great strategic plans for the iPhone to be able market it way ahead of the technological curve and keep it that way. They were able to keep it that way by creating a totally different market through their app program that makes life easier for iPhone users, and allows other companies to try to generate more revenues.

I feel that the iPhone is the most technologically advanced cell phones on the planet. Also, I would vote the iPhone to be in the top ten greatest technological advances during its time, behind the microwave and internal combustion engine. I feel that the iPhone is a great device for anyone to have; it is access to the world at your fingertips.
