TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre 1887

The pocket watch was the most used timepiece during the 1800s. Today, those same watches are valuable collector’s items. If you would like to have the authentic look of one of these antique watches without the expensive price tag, you might be interested in the TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre 1887 which has the antique build with the same sophistication technologies that make it great.

History

TAG Heuer is a luxury watch making Swiss company which was founded in 1860 and developed the Carrera Calibre 1887. They patented the first chronograph in 1882 and the oscillating pinion in 1887. TAG Heuer offered a number of automatic watches before their introduction of the Carrera Series which includes the Carrera CV2017.

Development

The core improvement to the Carrera Calibre 1887 was the movement which was accelerated when the watchmaker acquired the rights f production to the 6s37, another chronograph made by Seiko. This acquisition became the foundation needed to create the TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre 1887. Some improvements were make like main plate enlargement.

More sophistication was added to the Carrere Calibre 1887 with many parts made in Switzerland and parts such as oscillating weight and bridges developed by TAG. Nivarox, a specialist supplier helped with the design with a total of 320 parts included in this watch.

A subsidiary of TAG Heuer Cortech also played a role in developing the Carrera Calibre. This company produces cases, case backs, and bezels with a dedicated team assigned to manufacturing oscillating weight, plates and the bridges needed for Carrera 1887. A year and a half was required to construct these pieces.

The individual components are created from square brass ingots. It was important that each of the TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre 1887 be perfectly accurate with both measurements and specifications. That took special machines to accomplish and a Swiss company was located for that purpose. An hour is required to mill the plates and then another machine puts the jewels in place. These are then sent to TAG Heuer for completing the Carrera Calibre 1887.

Special work desks are set up with conveyor belts in the manufacturing plant so as to provide free movement and proper steps are taken, and an inventory tracking system is used to insure proper processing. Some of the steps are automated such as the oiling of jewels of the TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre 1887. These precision machines are important for the proper production of the watches.

TAG Heuer needed to develop these processes in order to meet their objectives for assembly of 15,000 watches during 2010. This number was stepped up to 50,000 units in 2011. The Carrera Calibre 1887 uses this same lineup with the expectation of reaching beyond its own boundaries.

Specifications and Technologies

There are 28,800 vibrations per hour, and it has a power reserve of 50 hours. There are also 39 jewels or 41 for those fitted with this power reserve. It also has a 12-6-9 layout to the dial, oscillating pinion and column wheel, with a motor racing design and a rewind system of high efficiency.
